Yes, as long as the tank has or can be equipped with a remote-ready dial. You will have to mount the unit to a stake near the lid.

Is the unit it safe?

Yes, Tank Q received "intrinsically safe" certification by MET Laboratories. This is one of the most difficult safety certifications to achieve. "Intrinsically safe" means that Tank Q was tested to assure it cannot cause or contribute to a fire in a hazardous area.
